WHAT REALLY HAS YOU STUCK?: PART 2

There’s never a time when we’re totally past the possibility of getting stuck. No matter how seasoned I get or how much my business grows, fear attempts to stop me in my tracks. That’s the thing: the fear never goes away. It’s been coming up constantly as we approach 2017’s Be The Brand Live event. In some ways it’s even scarier than the first one because I’m so committed to stepping it up and delivering more value. So how can we raise the bar on our BRAVE without letting fear slow us down—or stop us altogether?

In the last post we diagnosed what I call “preparedness paralysis” as the cause of what holds entrepreneurs back from reaching the next level of business. Today we’re talking treatment.

I asked you to take stock of what wasn’t working in your business so you could move forward with a whole new perspective on what’s at stake. Have you done that work? If not, stop right here, go back to that post, and do the work. Otherwise, you can expect more of the same.

If you’ve done that work, it’s time to talk treatment plan!

First, you must be BE WILLING—willing to be brutally honest with yourself about where you’ve been stuck, what’s not working, and what it will take to interrupt any blocks you have around you business.

GIVE UP PERFECTIONISM. Second, you have to know that YOU WILL NEVER BE FULLY PREPARED. It will NEVER be perfect. You will NEVER get it right every time. AND remember, your clients don’t even know that it’s supposed to look a certain way.

TRY ON TRUST. Nothing is guaranteed, so as much as it’s important to research and prepare, at some point you have to just close your eyes and jump. This is the adventure. Experiment, discover, adjust course, and repeat. We learn by doing, not by planning.

It’s like driving at night. You set out on a trip with your destination in mind. You map out your route but it’s so dark that your headlights only allow you to see a few feet ahead. You can stop on the side of the road or drive right through the discomfort, trusting that if you stay focused on the destination and keep moving forward, you’ll get there. That’s what it takes.

BE BRAVE. So often, I commit before knowing exactly what it’s gonna look like (and I encourage my clients to do the same thing). Once I commit, there’s no turning back. I’ve got skin in the game AND I have a hard deadline that calls all my creativity and resourcefulness into action. It’s scary, but it has you be bigger and BRAVER than you’ve ever been before.

GIVE UP YOUR FRAUDULENT BELIEFS and your behaviors will follow.

Not asking for the close?
Not asking for what you’re worth?
Not marketing yourself?

If you answered YES to any of those questions, look beneath the surface to the limiting beliefs that are running your show. What thought can you reverse or release to get yourself into new action?

Your prescription for getting unstuck:

● If you have a brave request, practice it in the mirror until it feels natural
● Pick up the phone and make three calls that have you BE BRAVE and make a request for new business!
● After each call: note what worked, what didn’t, and what you’ll do next time to step it up
● Practice asking 5 prospects for the money you believe you’re worth and be willing to walk away if they don’t see the value.
● Take BRAVE ACTION on something you’ve been procrastinating around putting yourself out there (e.g., record that podcast; schedule that webinar; send out that email or newsletter; commit to hosting that event)
● When you declare it, it becomes real. Take a stand and share your new commitment here so we can hold you accountable. Let’s support each other!

Remember, whatever “worst case scenario” your fear conjures up doesn’t hold a candle to doing nothing at all. These are all muscles, so let’s work it!
