What Most People Don’t Know About Being Transparent

Posted on by admin in Branding

open communication

I’ve always said that a great brand must have three things: vulnerability, transparency and connection.

Last week we tackled vulnerability and why it’s important to put yourself out there – especially when it’s a little uncomfortable to do so.

Transparency in business is also crucial. Not only will your clients appreciate the open communication, but you’ll also attract even more of them!

A part of my business journey that I frequently share with others is my bankruptcy story. While today I’m incredibly proud of the business I’ve built, this certainly wasn’t where I started.

My very first business failed miserably! It left my family in such extreme debt that the only way out was declaring bankruptcy and starting over from the ground up. It isn’t my proudest story, but it is an honest one that sends the message that failure isn’t the end of the world. It’s the brave you display afterwards when you pick yourself back up that speaks to who you are as an entrepreneur.

I share this particular story for several reasons. First, it shows my clients that I am imperfect. We all are! Second, it makes me much more approachable to those who may be currently struggling in their own businesses. If I weren’t open about my own struggles, I wouldn’t be able to form such a quick connection with these people.

So let’s talk about how you can be more transparent in YOUR business.

Be Open.
You’ll be able to foster a culture of trust between you and your clients. By being open with the people you serve you in turn allow them to put their faith in you. This is when the magic happens!

Communicate.
As you grow your business or make changes that can affect your clients, be sure to constantly keep them in the loop. Mistrust can form when information is revealed after the fact.

Be Honest.
When you’re putting your brand out there for the world, it’s important to tell your whole story, not just the parts that make you look good. Your IT Factors will see your authenticity and gravitate towards you.

What are you doing to stand up, be brave and share your successes and failures with the world? If you’re struggling to get real with yourself or your clients, let’s schedule a chat.
