How Building Your Tribe Will Benefit Your Biz

If you’re an entrepreneur, chances are you’ve felt alone in your business at some point, if not pretty often. It kinda comes with the territory, especially if you don’t yet have a team working alongside you.
Creating community for yourself AND for your clients is an essential path to growing your business. There are benefits to both leading a tribe and simply belonging to one.
FOR YOUR CLIENTS, YOU become the source of that community. You lead the charge and create the space for growth and opportunity. We’ll dive into that in the next post.
FOR YOU, it’s that group of like-minded business owners who reflect where you currently are or where you want to be. They provide camaraderie, spark ideas, share resources, and deliver that proverbial pat on the back when the road gets rocky.
So, where do you find them?
I started by attending events both online and off—conferences, one-day events, webinars, telesummits, and group masterminds. I have a business strategist that I touch base with multiple times a year so that I’m always upping my game, and I also have a personal development coach that demands the same focus and commitment as a business mastermind. Both of my coaches have their own communities that serve as powerful sources of guidance and inspiration.
I met professionals at different stages of the game, and I stayed close to those who inspired me and aligned with my long-term goals. Since they were already in a place I wanted to be, I got to learn from their pitfalls and avoid those mistakes. Some of those relationships have even turned into clients.
Masters know that our professional (and personal!) development never ends AND that we’re only as good as the company we keep. It’s so key to continuously hone and expand our skills and to invest in building the relationships that elevate our game. Otherwise we get stale—and that opens the door for competitors to edge us out. It also closes the gap between the value we provide and the level of excellence our prospects and clients seek.
Instead, I constantly work to stay at the top of my game, and I consistently raise the bar of what that looks like. Seeing what’s working and not working for others opens you up to a world of perspective that just wasn’t there before. And, the support and mentorship is priceless. In my experience, the more you invest in your community, the more bang for your buck you’ll get in return.
For me, the best ROI I’ve gotten in terms of garnering new skills and resources, receiving priceless mentorship, establishing key lateral relationships, and building my business overall, is masterminds. Masterminds come with built-in community. They’re also inherently structured to have you put your head down, focus like never before, and push through the resistance and perceived blocks that have held you back. Masterminds are my university—my ongoing education to better myself and my business.
Plus, it’s like joining a team! There’s nothing like having a core group of teammates to cheer you on when you’re riding high and pull you up when you’re struggling. There’s also nothing like getting structured, goal-driven coaching from someone who’s already been down the road you’re traveling. Masterminds provide the kind of accountability, deadlines, skill-building, sounding boards, and inspiration that’s near impossible to generate on our own.
I credit much of my success to the communities I’ve built. We’ve shared referrals, laughs, tears, and everything in between. Some have become clients and some have remained peers, but all have been priceless gifts on this journey.
